The Great American Ripoff: How Billions Flowed Into the Ukraine Without any Accountabiliy

When Biden said "money grows on trees", he forgot to mention they were in Ukraine!

This article is a little longer (and more serious) than usual, but here is the Elephant's take on on this matter.

In what could be described as a final act of fiscal recklessness, the Biden administration has announced an additional $6 billion in aid to Ukraine in its waning days. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen declared the release of $3.4 billion in budgetary assistance to Ukraine just one day after the administration announced $2.5 billion in military aid. Combined, this surge marks the largest single commitment of funds to Kyiv since Russia's invasion in February 2022.

What’s more troubling is the context: with less than a month remaining in office, President Joe Biden is leveraging his last days to funnel billions of taxpayer dollars into a foreign war while American citizens face skyrocketing inflation, homelessness, and mounting debt. As the nation sits on the edge of economic uncertainty, the Biden administration's priorities raise serious questions about leadership, accountability, and the role of the U.S. on the global stage.

A Legacy of Spending Without Oversight

The numbers are staggering. Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the U.S. has committed $175 billion in total assistance to the country, including over $30 billion in direct budgetary aid. This money funds Ukrainian government operations—everything from paying salaries for teachers and public employees to maintaining basic services in a country under siege.

But where is the oversight? Where is the assurance that this monumental sum is being used for its intended purpose?

Even by the Treasury’s admission, billions in U.S. aid have been "misallocated" or remain unaccounted for. Reports of fraud, corruption, and mismanagement in Ukraine’s financial system are widespread. Yet the administration seems content to shovel more cash into the furnace, with little to no inquiry into how it’s spent. The American people are left wondering: If Congress won't investigate, who will?

A President Too Incompetent to Stand Trial?

The questions don’t end with the money trail. How is it possible that a president who has been shielded from accountability for his own actions—deemed too incompetent to stand trial in some cases—can oversee decisions of this magnitude? If Biden is unable to provide coherent answers about the mishandling of classified documents and other business dealings, then what confidence should Americans have in his ability to execute sound foreign policy?

And then there’s the timing. With President-elect Donald Trump set to take office, this last-minute surge reeks of desperation—or worse, a deliberate attempt to tie the hands of the incoming administration. The Biden administration has consistently failed to articulate a clear endgame for U.S. involvement in Ukraine. Instead, its policies ensure the war drags on indefinitely, with no regard for the cost—in dollars or lives.

The Toll on Americans

Back home, the picture is bleak. The national debt has surpassed $33 trillion. Inflation continues to erode household incomes, and homelessness is rising at an unprecedented rate. Cities like San Francisco, New York, and Chicago are struggling to address basic public safety and infrastructure needs. Yet, in Washington, the priority appears to be sustaining a foreign war that has no direct benefit to the average American.

Where is the outrage? Where are the protests? Have we become so desensitized to government waste that we no longer demand accountability?

Is This a Money Laundering Operation?

Critics have long suspected that U.S. foreign aid serves as a cover for more nefarious purposes. The parallels between U.S. involvement in Ukraine and the endless wars of the past are undeniable. Julian Assange famously described the war in Afghanistan as a “money laundering scheme” designed to funnel wealth out of taxpayers' pockets and into the hands of defense contractors and corrupt officials.

"Exchange Afghanistan for Ukraine," as some have suggested, and the parallels are eerie. Defense companies reap massive profits. Politicians on both sides of the aisle secure their cuts through kickbacks and lobbying deals. Meanwhile, the war continues with no sign of resolution—because peace is bad for business.

Who Benefits?

The winners in this scenario are clear:

1. Defense Contractors: Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and Northrop Grumman have seen their stock prices soar since the war began. Every missile fired, every tank deployed, represents profit for these corporations.

2. The Political Class: Corrupt officials both in Ukraine and the U.S. benefit from slush funds disguised as aid. These funds flow back into election campaigns, lobbying efforts, and private accounts.

3. Global Elites: An endless war provides the perfect distraction, allowing the transnational security elite to consolidate power and wealth.

Where Is Congress?

While Americans struggle to pay their bills, Congress appears indifferent. The very body tasked with oversight has largely abdicated its responsibilities. Instead of investigating these massive transfers of wealth, they rubber-stamp aid packages and move on to the next spending spree.

The Biden administration’s actions beg for scrutiny. Why has there been no independent audit of the billions sent to Ukraine? Why has Congress failed to hold hearings or demand accountability?

The Final Act of Corruption?

As Biden prepares to leave office, his administration’s decision to prioritize Ukraine over Americans serves as a damning indictment of his presidency. Far from being a champion of democracy, Biden’s foreign policy has exposed the U.S. as a nation that values profits over people, war over peace, and global elites over its own citizens.

If the goal was to bankrupt the nation while enriching a select few, then this administration has succeeded beyond anyone’s wildest dreams.

The American people deserve answers. They deserve accountability. Most of all, they deserve leaders who put their interests first—not those of a foreign government or the defense industry.

The clock is ticking. Will Congress act? Will the media investigate? Or will this go down as the greatest ripoff in American history?
